Independence Realty Trust (IRT)

A June 2011 IPO,  Independence invests in multifamily residential properties. Sponsored by RAIT Financial Trust.

Maxus Realty (MRTI - pink sheets)

Owns and manages apartment buildings and a few office buildings in Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas. Delisted from NASDAQ in July 2008. Suspended dividend payouts in December 2008.

MAA (MAA)

Formerly Mid-America Apartment Communities, MAA owns and manages apartment communities in the south-central and southeastern U.S.

Post Properties (PPS)

Owns and manages upscale resort-style garden and high density urban apartments, and condominiums in ten markets across the U.S.

Preferred Apartment Communities (APTS)

An April 2011 IPO, Preferred intends to acquire multifamily residential properties throughout the U.S. It might also invest in mortgage loans secured by multifamily residential properties.

Sun Communities (SUI)

Owns and operates more than 130 manufactured housing communities, mostly in Florida, Indiana, and Michigan. Also  sells new and used homes for placement in its communities.

UDR (UDR) 

Owns and manages middle-market apartment communities nationwide.

UMH Properties (UMH)

Owns and operates 35 manufactured housing communities in New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
